Have you ever wanted a different way to handle the installation of your operating system (OS) versus using the direct attach storage in your server? Have you ever been concerned about the cost of a hard drive needed just for your OS?  Do you have an unusual deployment situation where vibration could impact your OS installation?  Well, the SD Boot option may be a solution for you. With the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 Server, the SD Card option is available for this need.

Using the HP SD Boot process is simple. HP Flash Media technology offers an efficient and reliable means for booting operating systems and in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers, it is easier.

Here’s a quick summary of the 3 steps:

1. Have a reliable HP SD Boot card.  See the QuickSpecs for HP Flash Media Kits to choose the best size and type needed for your HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2;

2. Insert the HP Flash Media card into the SD Card port;

3. Begin your Operating System deployment using HP Intelligent Provisioning.  Once you’ve powered up the server the HP Intelligent Provisioning can be easily accessed by pressing “F10”.  Then click on Configure and Install and follow the prompts.  The tool will show your SD Card Configuration in the menu.  You complete your OS install as normal following the prompts for OS choice, Product key, etc.

Read the whitepapers titled SD Boot: Using Secure Digital (SD) card technology for booting HP ProLiant servers for the complete process here.
